Application advice

In our approach, application advice plays a key role.

We support and further develop technically demanding products, on-site if requested. 

The wide range of possible plain bearings gives us a good insight into the required end product. Our customers therefore also see us as problem solvers. 

From the point of view of our technical application consultant, the following can be reported from everyday life with regard to bearing requirements:

The demands placed on bearings are often very different. Let's look at an example that shows the adjustments Lohmann makes to find the desired properties for the desired bearing. 

A plain bearing is used in the mechanical system of one of the most powerful forage harvesters in the world. In this machine, with more than 1000 PS (986.32 hp), a custom-made plain bearing from Lohmann is currently optimising a critical bearing. Due to the installation space, dirt entry, temperature fluctuations and a high dynamic load, a special bearing was developed together with the customer's design department. To this end, drawings, production steps and test specifications were coordinated in order to define an optimised solution. 

The demands on this plain bearing are a very long service life, dimensional stability and high resistance to ageing. The plain bearing developed especially for this application has these advantages over a conventional plastic plain bearing. 

To make the differences clear, let's imagine a button. This corresponds approximately to the diameter of a maintenance-free sliding disc, which contains a bore with a diameter of 4 mm and a very tight fit. For this application, which is used in the field of measuring machines, it is particularly important that it is maintenance-free and has a very low coefficient of friction. 

This example is intended to describe the variety of applications and their requirements. In general, we can summarise by saying that we always determine the application and the required properties in close consultation with the customer and then design a bearing based on this. Even if the customer cannot define these properties precisely in advance, we are on hand to offer high-quality technical advice. Our top priority always has been and remains to provide the customer with a sustainable solution that precisely meets their needs and requirements.
