We proudly present: our trainees

May 2023

Now that our trainees have presented their project, we would like to introduce our trainees and the training in more detail. In short interviews, our trainees talk about how they got started and their first experiences.

Interview with Emir-Can Ercin

Emir is 23 years old and is training with us to become a wholesale and foreign trade management assistant. He is currently in his second year of training.

How were the first days for you at the company?

My first few days at the company were very exciting for me. But I settled in very quickly. My colleagues all are very nice and make it very easy to fit in. You also immediately feel like you belong to the team.

What does your day-to-day work as a trainee look like?

My working day starts at 7:30 am. When I arrive, I greet all my colleagues who are already there. Then I go to my workplace and start the PC. In the meantime, I quickly grab a coffee, which, by the way, is available to all employees free of charge. I get a rough overview of what’s on the agenda and get started. If I have any questions, my colleagues are always ready to help and explain things. The lunch break starts at 12:15 pm, and most colleagues meet in the break room. My work is finished at 4:30 pm, and I say goodbye to my colleagues.

What do you do during your lunch break?

At lunchtime, I usually go to the break room where I meet the others. I often make myself a protein shake there. I also get involved in interesting conversations with colleagues. Sometimes I also retreat to the chill zone and surf a bit on social media or the internet. When the weather is nice, we often sit outside.

What do you particularly like about your training and the company?

That you feel comfortable here right away and that you can also contribute your own ideas. You are not treated like a regular trainee or exploited; you are part of the Lohmann team right from the start. In addition, you don’t just sit at the PC and perform monotonous tasks, but you also get individual, varied tasks such as preparing meetings or a trainee project.

It’s also cool that we have different company events during the year. In summer, our freezer is always full of ice cream, and there are also days when we have a barbecue, and all employees eat and chat together.

How was the transition from school to vocational training?

It’s completely different. In vocational training, you become more independent, and you take on more responsibility. You also realize that you are taking a step towards adulthood. In addition, you have more contact with strangers than you do at school.

Why did you choose this vocational training?

I’ve always been interested in finance and administration skills. After my commercial high school diploma, I decided to study computer science. However, after a very short time, I realized that my interests really lie in the commercial field. The decision was right, because I am very happy with my training here. I enjoy my work, and I can really see myself doing this job in the future!

Interview with Mustafa Miradil

Mustafa is 20 years old and is training with us to become a wholesale and foreign trade management assistant. He is currently in his first year of training.

How were the first days for you at the company?

I was very excited; everything was new to me. I had only done some internships before and didn’t know much about “real” work. But I was really happy when I realized that everyone here is incredibly patient and helpful. That made me feel very comfortable very quickly.

What does your day-to-day work as a trainee look like?

My day starts at 6:30 am. Since I’m not really into breakfast, I get ready and go straight to work. I start at 7:30 am. When I arrive, I do a quick welcome round and get myself a coffee from the kitchen. Then I check my emails and get a rough overview of what needs to be done. The work is very varied. I learn something new every day, whether I’m in the office, the warehouse or the production area. We change departments at regular intervals.

I attend vocational school two days a week. I’m doing pretty well at school. I usually take 1–2 hours at the weekend to study, so that I still have time during the week for my hobbies and to play football with my younger brothers.

What do you do during your lunch break?

At lunchtime, I go to our break room. I usually take something to eat with me. But sometimes we also order something from the snack bar down the street or from a delivery service together with the colleagues. There is always something new and funny to talk about.

It’s a very family-like atmosphere.

What do you particularly like about your training and the company?

Here you are not treated as  a general dogsbody. I am learning a lot from my colleagues. This is exactly how I imagined the training to be. I’m very happy with the training, as I really wanted to take the commercial route. I think it’s great that we also have trainee projects from time to time. I also think it's great that the company often plans events, as this brings you together with all your colleagues and creates a family atmosphere.

How was the transition from school to vocational training?

It was very exhausting for me at the beginning, especially since we trainees start our training in the warehouse and logistics area to get to know the products and the processes. But after a few weeks, I got used to it and now I’m doing great.

Why did you choose this vocational training?

I have always been interested in commercial occupations because my parents also work in that field. I was particularly interested in Lohmann because the company deals with products made of different metals and also manufactures in-house. It turned out to be the right step for me. I am very happy with how my training is going.
